It's Swedish

I very much like the range of products available from Swedish design house Svenkst Tenn. Svenkst Tenn has been around for 80 years and their textile pattern designers have included such greats as Josef Frank and Estrid Ericson. They provide fabrics as well as wallpapers and other furnishings and home accessories. They also do interior design. A full product range is also available from Liberty in the UK.

Uncommonly nice

A bench and a blog

I like this table bench by Michigan based designer and artist Pieter VanTuyl. The design is great, but the painted floral pattern is what makes it really stand out for me. From his website, "The 2007-2008 collection, a limited series of entry artifactsfor the exclusive home. Artisanal objects inspired by nature. Reflecting a passion for sustainable materials. Hand-craftedand exquisitely ornamented. With a heritage of design andcraft originating more than 400 years ago in Eastern Europe."

I'm always excited to discover a new South African design blog, and right now I'm loving Eye Candy. It's a Durban based blog featuring great decor, furniture and home accessories, as well as photography, graphic design and fashion.

Knu

I love this furniture from Knu. It's so stylish and contemporary, yet very unpretentious. The bookcase and filing cabinet designs are based strongly on the look of the good old fashioned, commonly available items, yet simply updated with the modern wood finish and steel legs. For me the filing cabinet immediately brings to mind those old grey steel office filing cabinets. I also love the contrast of the dark woodgrain finish and the bright shiny steel. The chair design also, is based on an old common design, but the curved steel legs give it a smooth, contemporary look. I very much like the way they've given mass produced, common designs an individual and edgy modern style.

Creative

I'm loving the creativity of these lamps and cushions by UK textile artist Lucy Renshaw. She also makes an interesting range of chairs. She revisions existing objects using found fabrics including knitted clothing. From her website, "Lucy uses colour inspired by her travels to the Caribbean and South America, mixed with exotic pattern, experimental ideas and traditional textile techniques to create original furniture pieces.She deliberately sets out to tackle environmental issues by working with recycled fabrics and reusing materials. She combines techniques of surface embellishment, embroidery and screen printing to produce imaginative and inspired interior products."

Fun

Some colourful fun from the mind of designer Guy Arzi - the Dear Doris hat stands are made out of vintage antlers and artificial flowers, the Rocky chairs are made out of old cinema and theatre seats.

Uber sexy

I love this furniture from Mo. The grandfather clock comes with the option of shelving or hanging space. I adore the floating design concept for the traditional chest of drawers and I would definitely have this in my house.....if I could.

Cushions etc

These cushions from Hau Hauz in Finland are great for adding a bit of Mid Century flavour to a room. I can see them looking very nice with this eco friendly chair made from recycled teak wood from Green with Glamour.

From extreme to bizarre

I'm loving the unusual, and sometimes bizarre range of home accessories and furniture available from Moss. 1. Babel Blocks designed by Constantin and Laurene Leon Boym for Boym Design Studio, US. Babel Blocks is a collection of five wooden action figures, representing New York City's cultural and religious diversity. 2. Terrorism Finger Puppets by I Golfini Della Nonna, USA. Each finger pupper represents a terrorist such as Kim Jong II. George W Bush is controversially included. I hope I'm not offending anyone by including this, but I wanted to give an idea of the crazy items available at Moss. 3. Corallo armchair by Fernando and Humberto Campana for Edra, Italy. 4. Favela chair by Fernando and Humberto Campana for Edra, Italy. 5. Clay Furniture dining chairs by Maarten Baas for Maarten Baas, Netherlands. 6. Crepax Kadhorna cabinet by Giuseppe Canevese for Ennezero, Italy. It features the artwork of graphic artist Guido Crepax (1933-2003), who was hugely influential in the development of European comic art in the second half of the 20th century. 7. Ukiyo round table designed by Tomita Kazuhiko for Moroso, Italy. 8. Sheep stool by Hanns-Peter Krafft for Meier, Germany.

Some Scandinavian living

These are some items that stood out for me at The Scandinavian Design Centre store. 1. Laquered steel Mistletoe magazine holder, I think the pattern's general enough to use all year round, not just at Christmas. 2. Flower stools made from cold foam and designed by Eero Koivisto. They also come in black and white. 3. Candy kitchen towel and aprons designed by Lotta Glave - love the colours and pattern! 4. Takeaway lamp made from fibreglass fabric and designed by Sigurdur Gustafsson -I want it!
