Decor inspiration

I don't usually like dark walls, but somehow I think in this case it works. It's from the apartment of South African jewellery designer Marchand van Tonder situated in Killarney, Johannesburg. He describes his decorating style as a combination of kitsch South African knicknacks, junk shop finds and childhood fantasy.

The bottom two images are from the Cape Town townhouse of South African magazine editor Emma Wright. Emma's style files advice - make your bedroom a comforting cocoon, mix styles, create colour zones and reinvent furnishings.
