Time for a change

My apologies for going AWOL. I am now back properly. As you will notice, I have made some changes to the blog. To be totally honest, I have to confess that I sort of began to lose interest in Smoke & Ochre. It was starting to feel stale and boring to me, and I just didn't have the same level of enthusiasm that I did before in scouring the web for that perfect chair or cushion. Also, there are so many wonderful blogs out there showing the latest, great new items, I feel it's pointless for me to just post things that I've already seen on other blogs, if I don't have anything more to add. Original content has always been important to me, I've tried my best to find my own content as much as possible. But now I'm tired of posting the same themes I've been focusing on, and I feel I need to broaden and make some changes to the scope of the blog.

I'll still be concentrating on home style posts, and will keep looking for eclectic interiors, but I want to do a little more art (and photography) including older classics and wander away from the new "cute" kind of art, to explore what else is out there. I also plan to do a few historical posts. I love history, especially the way that people have lived in the past, what they wore, what they ate, what they thought. I've read some great books that I think bring out some fascinating aspects of the past that I'd love to start sharing. Some other topics I want to start blogging about are interesting and unusual places, food and cultures. More about lifestyle as opposed to home style, and a bit more of my life, art and photo's. All in all I want to try and add a little more spice, a little more of what's exotic and enchanting.

I really appreciate everyone who reads my blog, and I hope you will continue to follow my journey and explorations, and hopefully I will be able to put together something more interesting than what I've been doing over the past while.

Hi Bronwyn. I look forward to reading your new content, well done for making a change. I must admit I've been wondering myself about blogging recently... I think it's great you have decided to be more focused.

I'm really glad you're back. I've always enjoyed your posts, so am even more excited that you plan on "spicing" them up further. It's good to have focus, and to stay inspired - which inevitably will lead to change - I've just learned this myself. All the best, Bronwyn.

I will gladly follow you wherever you want to take us. I think we blogger are information glutton, and the more we read about, the more we learn and the more we learn, the faster we change. I too feel that my blog represents a minute part of what interests me. I personally don't mind posting what has been posted before, because my blog is really my inspiration board. Some people hoard shoes, i hoard images.

I look forward to seeing where you go with this. I agree that I have a strong dislike for regurgitation of ideas. I try to stay original. Admittedly it is hard and I stray occasionally. Good luck with your new direction.

I so understand what you mean. That's why I decided a long time ago to stop posting about products on my blog. Someone will always have posted about them before me. I decided to make my blog about my experiences and encounters with the world around me. It's my world - not one in a magazine.

It looks and sounds like it will be a perfect and great change. Can not wait to see it all unfold.

Maryam & Denise - thanks for your encouragement. I do want to post more about my world and things that I actually have something to say about instead of just posting pretty products. There is definitely a place for those kind of blogs, and I enjoy reading a lot of them - but's it's just not something that I want to be doing so much of anymore.

Stumbled upon your blog from Judy Wise, I think. I'm an Oregon girl also, and it's nice to "travel" to your faraway place without having to pack much in the way of supplies.
Just a cup of tea by my side. Stay true to your blog and post your real life. I'd love to hear about it. Where did you find the woman in the turban photo? My in-laws used to have this painting on their wall ... or one totally her sister! - femminismo

Femminismo - thanks for your comment:) The picture of the turbaned lady is by Vladimir Tretchikoff, here's a link
