Happy Birthday Nelson Mandela

Today Nelson Mandela celebrates his 90th birthday. Anything I could say about him will sound cliched, but he is dearly loved by all South African's and I hope he has a fantabulous, wonderful birthday and many more in good health and happiness.

Here he is celebrating his birthday in Qunu, the small rural village in the Eastern Cape which is his hometown.

Here he is revisiting his prison cell in Robben Island a few years after his release from prison

Finally, after 27 years released from prison

"Never, never, and never again shall it be that this beautiful land will again experience the oppression of one by another... The sun shall never set on so glorious a human achievement. Let freedom reign. God bless Africa!" ~Nelson Mandela~

Again ... great tribute. What a lasting portrait of courage and a long fight for freedom! I've come to your blog via Judy Wise. Wondering again ... think I asked this before ... but where did the photo of the woman in the turban on the right side of your blog come from? My in-laws had this portrait in their home. Maybe it's famous - maybe not. Just reminds me of their home in the 1960s and all the days that followed. I wonder what ever became of her? (the portrait her)
I enjoy your entries and journal pages. Keep on, keep on!
