Give me vintage anytime

I'm mad about vintage pictures, give me vintage anything really, and I'm as happy as a clam. Where on earth did that saying come from....why are clams so happy? I collected these photo's over time on my computer, and unfortunately I don't remember where I found them all. I suspect that most, if not all came from this wonderful place over here. I especially love the shots of famous icons like James Dean, Marilyn Monroe and Sophia Loren etc because they're not the usual cliched and tired images that we always see.

Anyway, I'm off on a family day out to a craft market in Irene, Pretoria about 45 minutes away from where I live. Unfortunately my digital camera has decided to die on me.....aaarrggghhh....so I won't be able to take any pics. Hope you all have a great, relaxing Sunday.

James Dean

Salvador Dali and Man Ray

Mick & Bianca Jagger 's wedding day

Twiggy

Frieda Kahlo

Marilyn Monroe

Sophia Loren

Anna May Wong
Johnny Cash

Oh, I am so glad you are posting again. I kept on checking back after your Sad posting & eventually thought you must have disappeared!
I especially love the Marilyn Monroe picture - I have a bit of a thing for her and for years collected photographs and postcards of her. Might post some of my Marilyn Collection some time!

I forgot to add: The full expression is "happy as a clam at high tide" or "happy as a clam at high water" which is a little more explanatory as to the source of the happiness! See a full explanation here: http://www.worldwidewords.org/qa/qa-hap1.htm
Michael Quinion's site is a wonderful resource for meanings of words and phrases!
